Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is also known as Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). It is widely used in the treatment of acute and chronic pain in muscles, tendons and joints. ESWT describes the use of acoustic waves to target tissue at varying depths to compress and manipulate tissue resulting in a focused and precise deep tissue massage – where your hands can’t go. The results of the mechanical stimulus delivered by ESWT can lead to increased circulation, range of motion and pain relief – key components in the healing process.

For targeted, non invasive pain relief

The acoustic waves generated by the PiezoWave2 converge at a point deep within the soft tissue to produce an intense, extremely short duration compression burst. The focused acoustic compression force is translated to the surrounding tissue like an extremely precise deep tissue massage.

Precise pain localization – Patient guided pain relief

ESWT helps define where to treat – a unique feature not offered by other treatment modalities. Diagnosis of referred pain and the recognition of the originating pain triggering points can be accomplished using ESWT. Abnormal musculoskeletal tissue can be “flared” with focused ESWT in order to define the areas that require treatment. This process of defining the origins of pain is guided by the patient through verbal feedback to the healthcare professional providing the treatment.

Effectively treats pain resulting from

  • Soft tissue strains
  • Dysfunction in transitional regions between tendons and muscles
  • Repetitive stress injuries
  • Trigger points
  • Tendinopathy
  • Myofascial dysfunction

Benefits

  • Eliminates adhesions, thus improving range of motion
  • Alleviates muscle tightness and pain, improves circulation, and promotes healing
  • Helps you to return to more normal daily activities
